Reflecting on priorities of family & work

About Me

I’m the father of boy and girl twins and no they are not identical.  In fact, they could not be more different in appearance and personality which makes them so much more fun and interesting. My wife is similarly different than I am, but we share the same values and love for our kids and each other. We live in a sleepy town in the Bay Area, CA and strive to provide opportunities for our kids that will help shape them into well-adjusted, socially-conscious, independently minded, self-sufficient adults. Part of these opportunities include the opportunity to be bored.

I am a former teacher, principal, and Chief Academic Officer in traditional public and charter schools in Los Angeles, CA and learned a lot from the tens of thousands of parents and kids I had the privilege of working with – I’ve seen it all and I am better for it.

I love USC football, football in general, sports in general (playing and watching) and a really good nap. I also love food which includes (good) beer, (good) wine, (green) tea, cooking, eating out, gardening, and have been a Vegan Before 6 for about 3 years now (although not militant). I enjoy playing word games including Scrabble on FB (would love some new opponents) and the NYT Crossword Puzzle.

I’m proud of all things in and around my house that grow – mainly my garden and my kids, not necessarily in that order. Thank you for reading my blog. Please contribute to the community by leaving comments and sharing.

Rob’s got a blog! But he only lets people know by posting it on Facebook so his friend’s wife has to tell him it exists. What about the old standby- e-mail? For shame, Robert. For shame.

Rob, if you love scrabble try but be careful because you may become addicted! You play people live, from all over the world.
